The Future of Mobility: Siemens Explores Innovations for AutoTrust at the Mobility Conference

by Klaus-Peter Wegge

At the "Future of Mobility" symposium held on November 6th and 7th at Paderborn University, hosted by NeMo.bil in collaboration with DiSerHub, experts and stakeholders gathered to discuss the challenges and opportunities of mobility innovations in rural areas. As part of the EU-funded AutoTrust project, Klaus-Peter Wegge and his team from the Siemens Accessibility Competence Center participated in the event.

The most interesting object for us was the INYO-cab on display. The INYO cab is a software-defined vehicle. It is an autonomous lightweight shuttle optimised for last-mile transport. Together with the developers, we discussed the benefits of physical and digital accessibility.

The prototype, still in its early stages, does not yet feature specific accessibility accommodations. One notable challenge is the integration of a ramp for wheelchair users due to the limited space in the lightweight cab. This will probably lead to special vehicle configurations being built for particular user scenarios.

However, the concept of a software-defined vehicle opens up the possibility of flexibly implementing accessible functions and services for persons with reduced mobility.
